So, you’ve been a blogger for quite some time now and although you are enjoying creating some high-quality content, are you generating enough income? Sure, you might have sponsored posts or banner ads implemented all throughout your blog, but are you really getting a lot of money out of your current strategy?

If the answer is no, then you might want to turn your attention towards affiliate marketing. Yes, it is still relevant in this day and age. If anything, it has just been improved across the board.

Today, I am going to talk about monetizing your blog through affiliate marketing.

Why Affiliate Marketing?

There are so many reasons why affiliate marketing can really help you earn more just through blogging. The idea behind it is that you will become an affiliate of a company and you will then use your own platform to help market and promote their products.

But, you do not advertise their products in the same way you see on the TV; you just have to create blog posts and then add their affiliate links throughout your content and that’s it.

What makes affiliate marketing more appealing than any other monetization option is the fact that it is fairly inexpensive, to begin with and there is a lot of potential companies that can get a hold of your services. Find the right one and you could be earning thousands of dollars per month quite easily.

How to Get Started

So, if you want to delve deeper into affiliate marketing, here are the steps that are required for you to get started:

1. Choose the Right Niche

As a blogger, you might already know what a niche is, right? But, if you are truly starting from scratch, a niche is basically a smaller subset of a much larger market.

For instance, if we are talking about the tech industry, that is a pretty broad market.
However, you can narrow it down by focusing on smartphones, for example, and you could narrow it down even further by focusing only on certain brands.

Choosing the right niche means you are getting the balance of both profitability and accessibility. But, as a start, you should only concern yourself with the topics that you really like to write about and go from there. This way, you can be quite effective in writing relevant blog posts and if you gain enough experience, you can brand out to other niches as well.

2. Select the Right Programs

The next thing you need to concern yourself with is selecting the right affiliate programs.
Basically, an affiliate program is where you can enroll and get affiliate products that you need to promote in your blog.

You have to read every stipulation and rules that the program has in order for you to fully grasp what’s in it for you (and for the company you’re going to serve).
If you are still a beginner, I highly recommend that you search for different affiliate marketplaces like ShareASale or Clickbank, for example.

3. Create Your Own Strategy

For you to be an effective marketer, you need to create a strategy that works for you.
For instance, I use a linking strategy where I will get my affiliate links and track the statistics of it using a program.

If I find that certain affiliate links are clicked on by my audience more often than others, I will see what makes that content piece enticing to the readers and pick apart the best characteristics so I can better create the same content in the future.
